DVI Group acquires undeveloped plot at BER Airport

21. January 2021

DVI Group, together with partners, has acquired an approximately 210,000 square metre undeveloped plot of land in the immediate vicinity of Berlin-Brandenburg Airport (BER). The seller is an institutional owner. In cooperation with the municipality of Schönefeld in Brandenburg, the DVI Group plans to set a development plan and put the property to commercial use. A mixture of warehouse, logistics, office and hotel is planned.

Karsten Kluge, Managing Director of the DVI Group, comments: “The location directly at BER Airport is ideally suited for a commercial mix of uses. In close cooperation with the Schönefeld municipality, we will now discuss in the coming months which specific uses are possible at the site and accompany the project until plans have progressed to the stage of execution.”

The DVI Group operates primarily as a portfolio holder of residential and commercial properties with a regional focus on eastern Germany. In addition to its role as a developer in its own portfolio, DVI also undertakes project developments up to the point of obtaining building rights.

The property on Waßmannsdorfer Chaussee is characterised not only by its direct location at BER Airport, but also by its good connection to the B96. According to the bulwiengesa study “Update Büroimmobilienmarkt am Großflughafen Berlin” from 2019, the area around BER is benefiting from the high demand for office properties in Berlin and the increasing shortage of space in city centre locations. Commercial real estate in Schönefeld also scores with lower rents. However, an optimal infrastructure still needs to be established, according to the study. It is also important to position the individual sub-locations with their different location qualities correctly. Only in this way can a precise target group approach be guaranteed.
